Until recently, Northridge Community Church was known as The Salvation Army Newmarket Corps.

It was the mission of the Newmarket Corps, and it remains the mission of Northridge Community Church, to know Christ better and to make Him better known.

In thinking very seriously about this mission in the year 2001, the Church Ministry Board came to the conclusion that in order to make Christ better known within this community, the church needed to appear more inviting to those who do not know The Salvation Army as a church.  It was felt that many people did not know that the Salvation Army offered a church environment which was suitable for ANYONE and EVERYONE.  For this reason, it was decided that a generic, non-denominational name would be selected to replace The Salvation Army Newmarket Corps.  The name Northridge Community Church was introduced in April, 2002.

Why Northridge?

The Oak Ridges Moraine

To the right is a Digital Elevation Model of the Oak Ridges Moraine area in Southern Ontario. The pink areas represent the highest levels of elevation.  Make note of the ridge running East/West midway between Lake Ontario to the South and Lake Simcoe to the North.

Same Elevation Model With Roadmap

This is the same model with a roadmap of the Greater Toronto Area superimposed on top. Note the position of Newmarket and Aurora, just north of the ridge. Northridge Community Church is a ministry of The Salvation Army within the Greater Toronto Area — just North of the Ridge!
